Shinzen 2019

Please carefully read all of the information below before registering, particularly the refund policy. This is an intensive silent meditation retreat, however, almost every event is optional. The retreat is held at the lovely COD ranch in Oracle Arizona which is about 40 miles from Tucson.

As of Dec. 10th all single rooms are filled with 7 people on the waiting list. Double rooms are full, with 6 people on the waiting list. There are 3 people on the waiting list of a triple/quad.  We still have camping and commuting spots. You may register for the waiting list by clicking the Join Waiting List button below.

Noble Silence
Noble silence will be observed throughout the retreat buildings & grounds, including meals, for the duration of the retreat with the exception of Q & A sessions and interviews.

Meals
Price includes three meals per day. Meat will be served at this retreat. If you have dietary restrictions please take a look HERE at our flexible menu plan to see if it meets your needs. If not, please contact the registrar.  Please list any restrictions on the registration form to assist the kitchen staff with planning.

Volunteer Jobs
This retreat is managed by a very small group of volunteers, so in order to make the retreat possible we ask all retreatants to volunteer for one or more mindful jobs during the online registration process.  A list of job descriptions can be found HERE

Deadline/Cancellation Policy
Deposit ($200) is due with this registration. Balance of retreat Payment in Full is due by December 9, 2018. Before January 9th, the deposit is refundable minus a $25 processing fee. After January 9th, no refunds of deposit and/or payment in full will be offered due to our financial commitment to the retreat center. In the event of special circumstances, each case will be considered individually when the retreat is over.

Arrival
Registration is from 8:30-9:30 am on Saturday, Feb. 9th.  Please plan to arrive in time to register, and settle in before the opening of the retreat at 10:00am.  If you are truly unable to arrive in time, please let us know in advance.  First time Shinzen retreatants MUST arrive between 8:30-9:30am.

Departure
The retreat ends Sunday, Feb. 17th at lunch.

Teacher Dana
Retreat fee covers room, meals and expenses only. The teachings of the Buddha have been sustained by the 2,500 year old tradition of dana, a Pali word meaning "generosity.” Teachers give the teaching freely, without charge, and it is traditional for students to support the teachers with a donation (dana). Retreatants will have the opportunity to offer dana donations to the teacher at the retreat's end. Giving dana is voluntary and anonymous.

Accommodations
Single and Double rooms are limited and are available on a first come, first served basis. We suggest that you register early, and we will do our best to give you your room preference. Some single rooms share bathrooms. Camping spaces will become available once minimal registration requirements meet basic expenses. For more information about the accommodations at COD Ranch, please go here

Lodging The Night Before The Retreat Starts
The C.O.D. Ranch is offering lodging at $75 per person for Friday night, Feb. 8th.  No meals will be served until lunch on February 9th.  If you would like this option please choose it on the registration form and it will be included with your payment.

For those flying in from out of town
Due to a limited pool of volunteers, TCMC is unable to offer rides from the airport to the retreat center.  We will help connect those flying in so that they can share a shuttle. It is recommended that you try to arrive in Tucson around 3:30 P.M. on Friday (plus or minus 2 hours). This will make it easier for a group to share a shuttle. You will want to schedule your return flight for Sunday late afternoon or evening or on Monday if you are attending the optional sweat lodge ceremony.

Scholarship Fund
If you wish to make a contribution to help someone attend the retreat, please indicate this on the registration form.  We offer a limited number of partial scholarships in the range of ($200-300) which are awarded based on financial need, the number of requests and donated funds. We ask that scholarship recipients accept the least expensive accommodations.  To apply for a scholarship, please ask the registrar for a Scholarship application.

Online Host
An online host offers her room to be used for ‘Online Support’ which utilizes the teacher's time efficiently by providing personal and confidential guidance for 3 students at a time, via a phone system.  An online host will have a normal retreat experience except that she agrees to vacate her room during the online periods.  Sessions are three times a day and are usually scheduled at 7-8:30 am; 3-4:30 pm and 9-10:30 pm.  There are typically sits going on in the meditation hall during these time periods. If you choose this option you will receive a $150 discount on the retreat. Please contact the registrar before choosing this option.

Sweat Lodge Ceremony
For an additional fee of $20, plus donation to the leader, you may attend a traditional sweat lodge ceremony (led by a Native American) the evening of February 17th. The ceremony is held off site, and is not officially sponsored by TCMC.  It ends late in the evening on Sunday.  It is an intense experience with very hot temperatures and some smoke.  If you have health issues please discuss them with the registrar. Your registration confirmation will explain what clothing, etc. you will want to bring.  If you do not have a car we will try our best to arrange a ride to the sweat lodge, but since we are reliant on volunteers we cannot guarantee a ride. If we are able to find you a ride to the sweat lodge we will also make sure you get a ride back to Tucson at the end. If you are flying to Tucson it is recommended that you get a hotel near the airport for Sunday night.

Pets
No pets are allowed at the retreat.  Registered service animals are allowed.

Camping
We are offering a camping option. Since the retreat is in February the temperatures can be quite cold. The average temperatures for Oracle Arizona in February are a high of 59 degrees and a low of 37 degress fahrenheit. If you are planning to camp you will need good cold weather camping gear.
