Ready to get Started Meditating with TCMC PDF Print E-mail

TCMC offers several paths to getting started in the practice of mindfulness meditation.

 

Parking near the Center

Because TCMC is in a residential neighborhood, please park as far from TCMC as it is possible for you to walk.  Please do not park in front of the homes in the same block as the Center. If neighbors complain about the parking we could lose the center.  For complete parking guidelines CLICK HERE

1. 2-hour Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation workshop

On a monthly basis, TCMC offers a 2 hour Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation workshop. This workshop includes basic instruction to get you started in mindfulness meditation practice, including sitting, posture, a talk introducing what mindfulness meditation is, the benefits, and offering resources for supporting further practice. There will be plenty of opportunities for question and answers. Please call Terry Magee at 481-7735 or email for the date and time of the next workshop, to reserve a seat, or if you have any questions. The suggested donation is $20, but no one will be turned away due to inability to pay.

 

2. 4-hour sessions with Shinzen Young    

On the second weekend of each month, meditation teacher Shinzen Young leads [by conference call]a basic introduction to a specific technique of mindfulness meditation.  The class includes in-depth explanation of the technique, guidance through several meditation sessions, and time for questions and answers.  You can get more details on the upcoming programs at basicmindfulness.org.  These sessions can be done from your home or at TCMC.  If you plan to participate at home, you must register ahead of time with the webmaster at basicmindfulness.org.  If you plan to participate at TCMC, you may simple show up at the appointed time.  The fee for the four-hour session is $20.  Scholarships may be available through the webmaster at basicmindfulness.org.

 

3. 5-week class series with Terry Magee and Lhasha Tizer.

Approximately on a quarterly basis, Terry Magee and Lhasha Tizer offer a 5-week introduction to Mindfulness Meditation series. These 2 hour classes offers instructions and weekly support in on-going practice. The classes are offered in a progressive manner, through a sequence of instructions, each session building on the last. Each class will include a period of meditation, a talk focused on why we practice and what it is possible to discover, as well as time for questions and discussion. There will be a silent daylong practice session towards the end of the course.  By the end of five weeks you will have complete instructions for bringing mindfulness into every aspect of your life. In addition this class will prepare you for attending a meditation retreat. Please call Terry Magee at 481-7735 or email Lhasha at for more information. The suggested donation for this class series is $85-$100. Scholarships may be available.

 

4. Monday Night Class.

Every Monday night at 6:30 TCMC presents a guided meditation followed by a brief, optional Q&A session.  This class does not offer much in the way of introductory material, but the guided meditations are designed to allow a complete beginner to follow along.  So if you want to get started right away, you are welcome to attend the Monday Night Class while waiting for one of the aforementioned introductory classes to come around.  No registration required.  Just drop in and have a seat.  There is no fee, but donations are gratefully accepted.
